A REQUEST to erect a new covered area on Palmer's Meadow has been turned down by Tenbury Town Council.

Tenbury United Football Club sought the Council's approval to construct a permanent structure in the same position as the wooden stand that was recently removed.

George Price, chairman of the football club and a Malvern Hills District Councillor, told the Advertiser: "We approached the Town Council for approval in principle for a permanent metal stand which will be as minimal as possible whilst being sturdy and robust."

Town Councillors expressed concern about a lack of details about the covered area at last week's Town Council meeting and voted against the request.

Coun Price added: "Without their approval there is no point in us submitting an application to Malvern Hills District Council for planning permission."

"I will do whatever the Town Council tell me to do because we have got to provide this covered area - it is one of the conditions of being in this league."

The first structure was removed after it was placed on Town Council land without their permission or knowledge. The temporary stand had been put up to comply with regulations after the club was promoted into the West Midlands League and needed improved facilities.
